Loading ROSWELL_TIMELINE.SYS. On July 8, 1947, the Roswell Army Air Field issued a press release stating they had recovered a "flying disc." Within hours, General Roger Ramey at Fort Worth held a press conference retracting the statement, claiming it was a weather balloon. The original press release was authorized by Colonel William Blanchard, the 509th Bomb Group commander, the same unit that dropped the atomic bombs on Japan. Blanchard was not a man prone to misidentifying weather balloons. The retraction came from above his pay grade and was immediate.

The Air Force provided two official explanations over five decades. Project Mogul in 1994, stating the debris was from a classified balloon array monitoring Soviet nuclear tests. Then in 1997, the "Case Closed" report attributing alien body reports to anthropomorphic crash test dummies dropped in the 1950s. The Mogul explanation has merit. The materials described by rancher Mac Brazel, foil, sticks, rubber, tape with floral patterns, are consistent with Mogul balloon components. The simplest explanation remains the most plausible one.

Cross-referencing MOGUL_RECORDS.DAT. There is a problem with the Mogul explanation. Flight 4, the specific Mogul balloon launch cited by the Air Force, has no launch record. Professor Charles Moore, who worked on Mogul, could not confirm Flight 4 actually launched. The flight records skip from Flight 3 to Flight 5. The Air Force built their entire explanation on a balloon launch that may not have occurred. Additionally, Major Jesse Marcel, the intelligence officer who collected the debris, maintained until his death in 1986 that the materials were unlike anything he had ever seen, including classified programs he had clearance for.

Marcel is a problematic witness. Subsequent investigation revealed he had embellished his military record, claiming a pilot rating and five combat missions he did not have. A witness who inflates his credentials on record is not reliable on other extraordinary claims. And the "memory metal" and "indestructible foil" described by witnesses decades later does not match the contemporaneous 1947 descriptions of mundane debris. Memory is reconstructive, not reproductive. Seventy-seven years of cultural contamination have transformed a debris field of balsa wood and foil into alien metamaterials.

Scan WITNESS_DATABASE.LOG. Marcel is one of over 600 witnesses documented by researchers Stanton Friedman and Don Schmitt. The testimony includes first responders who described non-human bodies, military personnel ordered to transport sealed crates under armed guard, and civilians threatened with harm if they spoke publicly. Lieutenant Walter Haut, the public information officer who wrote the original press release, left a sealed affidavit opened after his death in 2005 stating he personally saw the craft and bodies at Hangar 84. Dismissing all of this requires a conspiracy of hundreds of liars sustained over decades.

It does not require a conspiracy of liars. It requires exactly what we know happens with traumatic and culturally significant events: narrative contamination, social reinforcement, memory reconstruction, and the human tendency to elaborate over time. The 1947 contemporaneous record describes debris. The 1978 onward testimony, after the case was reopened by Stanton Friedman, describes alien bodies and intact craft. The escalation correlates with media attention, not with proximity to the event. I classify Roswell as inconclusive. The Mogul explanation is incomplete, but the extraterrestrial hypothesis rests on testimony that grew more extraordinary as it grew more distant from the event. Neither side has produced the physical evidence that would settle this.
